From November 1 to March 31 Gateway Community Church hosts the Extreme Weather Shelter for the city of Abbotsford. In partnership with BC Housing, we are able to accommodate 30+ beds each night the shelter is open.

As guests arrive, they receive a warm and friendly welcome from our wonderful volunteers and staff.  Each guest will go through a 'welcoming process' and be given a sleeping bag and pillow.  Once the guest settles in there is hot soup, fresh buns and coffee to enjoy.

When the morning comes, each guest cleans up their sleeping bag and pillow,

fresh coffee is ready and a bag breakfast to go.

  • The shelter is open when the temperature is 1 degrees or below during the night, any type of winter weather warning or snow on the ground.

When the shelter is open it will be open from 8:00 pm - 8:00 am

  • Gateway's Extreme Weather Shelter is a high barrier shelter meaning there is no drug use on the property. If it is established that a guest is using drugs on the property they must adhere to the consequences laid out and clearly stated.  All that to say, we do our very best but there are occasions where we do deal with overdoses etc.
