Extreme Weather Shelter

‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25: 37-40

The Extreme Weather Shelter was established at Gateway in 2018 as a ministry to help those less fortunate in our community. In partnership with BC Housing, Gateway Community Church provides 30 beds, hot meals, delicious coffee and laundry services for our guests.

On Monday nights when the Shelter is open, we partnered with Refresh Mobile Showers to provide hot showers for our guest.

When the weather dips below zero degree during the night hours,  if there is any type of weather warning or there is snow on the ground, the shelter will be open from 7:30 pm to 8:00 am. The Shelter runs from November 1 - March 31.

Hours to volunteer are 7:00 pm - 12:00 am and from 12:00 - 8:00 am. There will always be a staff member on duty along with one or two volunteers. There are a variety of duties from checking in our guests, socializing, doing laundry and more.

All volunteer must meet our Safe Church Requirements as well as participate in mandatory training by the Shelter Staff.
